Braces-Friendly Recipes For Spring

Spring is officially here, and we know many of our patients are excited to welcome warmer days and eagerly awaiting summer vacation. To help you ring in the new season, we’ve pulled together a few of our favorite braces-friendly recipes. Try these at home and we’re sure you’ll be enjoying all the new season has to offer!

Brown Sugar Baked Peaches

These delectable treats are the perfect way to satisfy a sweet tooth – and they pose no risk to braces.

Ingredients

  • 2 fresh peaches, halved & pitted
  • 2 tsp butter
  • 8 tsp brown sugar
  • 2-3 tsp cinnamon

Directions

First, preheat your oven to 375º F, then put the peaches skin-side down on a baking dish. Put half a teaspoon of butter into the hollow of each peach pit, then top each one with 2 tsp of brown sugar. Sprinkle on cinnamon to taste, then pop them in the oven for 30 minutes or so. Serve alone or with a scoop of ice cream and enjoy!

Avocado & Egg Salad

Spring is salad season, but unfortunately, many salads have hard, crunchy ingredients that can damage braces. Here’s an easy, delicious salad recipe you can enjoy no matter what orthodontic treatment you’re getting.

Ingredients

  • 3 eggs, hard-boiled, peeled, chopped, and cooled
  • 1 small ripe avocado, peeled, pitted, and chopped
  • 3 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 tsp chives, chopped
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • Soft bread

First, put the eggs, avocado, and onion into a large mixing bowl. Add in your mayonnaise and lemon juice then stir everything together to mix. Salt and pepper to taste, then place the whole mix onto a piece of soft bread. Top with the chives, then dig in!

Braces-Friendly Spring Rolls

Homemade spring rolls are great for braces because you get to choose what’s inside, and this recipe is perfect for the spring season – it’s even in the name!

Ingredients

  • Spring roll wrappers
  • Shrimp, thoroughly cooked
  • Glass noodles
  • Finely shredded veggies like zucchini or carrots
  • Lean meat or tofu

Directions

First, prepare the wrappers by soaking them in hot water until softened, lifting them out to let the water drip off, and laying them out flat on a plate or cutting board. Put the filling on the bottom third of the wrapper with about a 1″ border on each side. Fold the wrapper over the filling ingredients, then start rolling it tightly. Fold in the ends when you’re about halfway through, then continue rolling until you have a spring roll. Repeat the process for as many rolls as you want, slice in half right before serving, and enjoy!
